The Best Products for Your Pet
If your pet has a health concern, I strongly recommend having them seen by your local veterinarian. Good medical recommendations can only be made after full historical and physical evaluations. However, after seeing a pet in my clinic, I often find myself making recommendations for over the counter products. As a result, I have started a running list of my most often recommended products. Please note that my use of the word “Best” is tongue in cheek. They are my own preferences based on anecdotal experiences only.
The BEST Ear Cleaner:
Douxo (Sogeval Micellar Solution for Dogs & Cats (8.4 oz) – Cleansing Formula for Ears & Sensitive Skin
If you have a dog that is prone to waxy dirty ears, this is the cleaner that I recommend purchasing. From the manufacturers website, “Douxo® Micellar Solution is a formulation designed for the cleansing of ears in dogs and cats. The micellar technology and soothing agents help emulsify and wash out waxy debris without drying. The solution is non-greasy and non-staining. Douxo® Micellar Solution also contains phytosphingosine, a Ceva exclusive pro-ceramide to help support a healthy skin barrier.” Note: This link is for the larger bottle. Don’t scrimp. If you are cleaning Fido’s ears correctly, you will use it.
The Best Maintenance Ear Drops for Allergy Ears:
ZYMOX OTIC with Hydrocortisone 1.0 Ear Solution Treatment 1.25 fl.oz for Dogs Cats
Zymox with hydrocortisone is an enzymatic based ear drop that contains hydrocortisone, to help with signs of inflammation. If you suspect your dog or cat has an active ear infection, please take them to your veterinarian prior to putting anything in the ears. However, if your furry friend has allergies or another cause of chronic ear inflammation, consider asking your vet about using Zymox as part of their therapy. Note that the Zymox brand also sells an ear cleaner and a steroid-free version of their otic drops.
